A lot of people always ask me; "Klaus, how do you keep pushing yourself in the gym day in and day out? - How do you stay on the diet? - What motivates you?" I can sum it up with a quote by the great Formula 1 race car driver Michael Schumachers saying “Once something is a passion, the motivation is there” You need to create a desire or will to do something. You need to know why you are acting and behaving in a certain way. Our reasons for getting up in the morning, working out, working towards a goal or pursuing a project aren’t motivating enough for us to take any real action. And the reason for that is people have a bad habit of ONLY drawing motivation from external forces rather than internal. In other words, expecting other people to keep you motivated isn’t good enough. Depending on others to keep you motivated is like depending on others to keep you happy. It’s not possible for somebody else to do it for us, because it’s an internal problem, not an external problem. It all starts with you and ends with you! If self motivation is a problem, you need to find out why. I’d start off by asking yourself a couple of these questions.
Once you know the answer to these questions and you have enough reasons, motivation is a breeze. The only reason people struggle to motivate themselves to do something is because they don’t have enough reasons to do it.
